Dear Community and Clients,
We at Family Counselling Centre of Brant are committed to protecting the health and safety of our clients, community, and our staff. Following consultation with Ontario Public health and after reflecting on the rapid expansion of COVID-19 in Canada, we are taking precautions to ensure we do our part to minimize the spread of the virus.
Because the reduction of social contact is the most effective tool we have, please be advised that we will no longer be offering face-to-face appointments unless they are critical in nature. We are restricting all personal contact both in the office and on client’s premises.
As a result, we would like to advise you of the ways you can receive service from us without having to physically visit our office or see our staff in person.
- For those who currently receive Individual developmental service supports (Case Management, Intensive Case Management, Behaviour Supports); we urge you call your worker and take advantage of either phone-based or video-counselling in the safety and comfort of your home.
- For those who receive Counselling or wish to refer for counselling we also urge you to call your therapist or our intake department (519 753 4173 x 239) to take advantage of telephone counselling or video counselling.
- For those who receive Credit Counselling or wish to refer for Credit Counselling and Financial Empowerment Services please call your worker, Sue Davey (519 753 4173 x 245) or make a referral to Terri Gilroy (519 753 4173 x 223).
As a means of limiting social contact, we have closed our group programs, including Respite Services, Passports, and our group therapy programs.
If you or your loved one could benefit from telephone or video counselling supports instead please call our intake department (519 753 4173 x 239) and discuss your needs and options with us.
Thank you kindly for your consideration and patience. We look forward to continuing to serve you.
Stay Safe and Healthy!

In the 104-year history of the Family Counselling Centre of Brant, we have been fortunate to have incredible executive directors steering the agency, including Shelley McCarthy, who after fifteen years of remarkable agency and community leadership, has now retired. We are delighted to welcome Leslie Josling who has assumed the Executive Director role, effective October 1, 2018.
We are extremely proud of Shelley’s amazing contributions. During her fifteen years here, she has expanded and developed programs that foster belonging, relationship and inclusivity, serving individuals with disabilities and their families, and those who seek to enhance their relationships across Brant, Hamilton, Niagara and Haldimand Norfolk. Shelley is known for her integrity and an empathic, thoughtful, collaborative approach to building community. We wish Shelley all the very best in the future. She will be missed!
Leslie Josling is a long-time resident of Brantford. She is an experienced leader who has worked as the Executive Director at KW Counselling Services for 12 years and at Haldimand-Norfolk R.E.A.C.H. for 15 years prior to that. Trained as a graduate level clinician and in social innovation, Leslie is known for developing and researching responsive programs such as a Walk In Counselling Clinic, Parenting Now and OK2BME that have attracted national, and even international, attention. Leslie has succeeded in forwarding the agenda for programs that celebrate diversity for newcomers, people with disabilities, women and individuals who identify as LGBTQ2+.
Leslie has returned to work close to home with a deep desire and commitment to making a difference here. She looks forward to working with our partners and the community in its diversity, to continue to create responsive, meaningful services, that enhance caring, meaningful connection and belonging.
Please join me in wishing Shelley McCarthy a warm farewell and welcoming Leslie Josling to Family Counselling Centre of Brant.
