Barrett Centre Partnership

Started in January, 2014, this service is only available to people with a developmental disability who are 18 years of age or older living in the Hamilton area. Referrals are made directly to the Barrett Centre or through DSO.

A Behaviour Consultant is available at the Barrett Centre three days a week. They integrate with the staff and programs at the Barrett Centre to ensure that supports are adapted for the person with a dual diagnosis (mental health and developmental disability). Brief transition to community supports is also provided.

The person experiencing the acute mental health crisis must be without acute medical concerns, and significant safety risks [i.e. assessed to be acute suicidal risk] that would endanger self or others, and that cannot be appropriately managed by the crisis staff. They must be willing to participate in the program through signed consent and have an ability to engage in their recovery and wellness planning/behaviour change.
